ADF Automatic Document Feeder
AIX Advanced Interactive eXecutive. A version of the UNIX operating
system from IBM that runs on various IBM computers including
Mainframe systems
ARP Address Resolution Protocol. A protocol within TCP/IP networks that
allows a host to find the physical address of a node on the same
network
Bcc Blind Carbon Copy. Send a copy to the entered Bcc address but do not
indicate to the recipient that you have sent this copy.
BOOTP Boot Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol, which allows an Internet node to
discover certain startup information such as its IP address
BSD Berkeley Software Distribution. The University of California, Berkeley
additions to the UNIX operating system
CCITT G.4 The most common format for compressed TIFF files. Used for viewing
and archiving of scanned documents
CMIP Common Management and Information Protocol
DD Document Description.
DTC Dynamic Threshold Curve. Image enhancement type (see IPC)
DTD Document Type Definition. A specific definition of the rules and
syntax that the DD (Document Description) file must follow
DHCP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A system based on network
interface card addresses, which is used to allocate IP addresses and
other configuration information for networked systems
dither A method to obtain a rasterized effect for pictures, especially scanned
photos
