Using BOOTP
in UNIX
Follow these steps to download the IP address using the BOOTP
method:
1. Append the following entry to your boot table. This is typically
performed by editing the file
/etc/bootptab.

2. If necessary, update your host table and alias name databases as
required by your system.
3. Start the BOOTP daemon, if it is not already running. This is typically
performed using the command
bootpd -a
4. Restart the Document Server to download the IP address, default
router address and subnet mask.

ht ether for Ethernet
vm rfc1048
ha The Ethernet or node address, i.e. the Document Server serial
number
ip The IP address of the Document Server
sm The subnet mask
gw The default router address

:sm=255.255.0.0:gw=172.16.253.254
BOOTP is enabled by default but can be disabled by an Administrator using the System
Settings page.
